The DBE in South Carolina was founded in 1974 with the formation of the Redcoat Chapter in Greenville.
Followed later by the formation of the Lake District Chapter in Clemson. Both chapters each have a committee
headed by a Regent. The chapters are administered by a State Board, whose officers are elected from the membership,
and included delegates from each chapter. Periodically the State has the opportunity to host a Southern District meeting,
or a Mountbatten House General meeting, which allows us to entertain, make friends, and renew acquaintences with our DBE sisters
from other Southern States.
We are an extremely social organization, which enjoys many social activities. We like to include
husbands and friends in these events as much as possible, and in doing so we find that everyone is happy to support our cause.
Of course, all of these reasons are of primary importance to our groups, but we also have a philanthropy
that goes along with our enjoyment of social activity with each other. We are committed to the support of the Retirement
Home, Mountbatten House, which is the responsibility of DBE members throughout the Southern District; we hold fundraisers
throughout the year to enable us to send financial contributions to the home on a regular basis.
The DBE in South Carolina takes part in many International events, including the International parade
in Greenville each year, and in various International Center sponsored events, including Burns Night, the Irish Festival,
The Highland Games, and International exhibits at local schools. These are great fun, and allow us to show local schoolchildren
something of our culture.
DBE welcomes enquiries from anyone who would enjoy visiting a meeting of the DBE. Chapters
currently exist in Clemson, Charleston and Greenville. For meeting times and place, visit the chapter page that interests
you, or contact State Organizer Chris Barlow .
